Hawaiian Airlines carry-on dimensions and bag size

The maximum Hawaiian Airlines carry-on size is 22 x 14 x 9 inches, which works out to 55.9 x 35.6 x 22.9 cm. These measurements include wheels, handles, and any external pockets, so a bag marketed as "22 inch" can go over if its wheels push the total past 22 inches. Always measure your bag packed, not empty.

Hawaiian Airlines carry-on weight limit

Hawaiian Airlines does not publish a specific carry-on weight limit for domestic travel. Our guidance: pack it light enough that you can lift the bag into the overhead bin yourself.

Does Hawaiian Airlines charge for carry-on bags?

No. Hawaiian Airlines includes a free carry-on bag plus a free personal item on every fare, including the Saver fare.

Hawaiian Airlines overhead bin size by aircraft

Carry-on max is 22 x 14 x 9 inches. There is no published carry-on weight limit post-merger; you must be able to lift the bag into the overhead bin unaided. Personal item must fit under the seat. Widebody A330 and 787 aircraft have generous bins, while Boeing 717 interisland flights have smaller bins and frequently require valet gate check.

Avoiding gate-check on Hawaiian Airlines

On 717 interisland flights expect your roller to get valet tagged at the gate regardless of fare. Book Extra Comfort or First for earlier boarding on North America and international routes if you need guaranteed bin space.

  • A second roller bag

Common Hawaiian Airlines carry-on mistakes

  • Bringing a carry-on too large for the 22 x 14 x 9 in sizer. Gate agents check fit, especially on Boeing 717 interisland flights with smaller bins.
  • Expecting overhead space on 717 interisland hops, where bins are very small.
  • Assuming the Alaska merger has unified all baggage rules. Through 2026 Hawaiian still posts its own branded policy and runs separate baggage desks, though carry-on size rules now match Alaska's and neither publishes a carry-on weight cap.

What happens if your bag does not fit on Hawaiian Airlines

On Boeing 717 interisland flights agents routinely valet roller bags at the jet bridge at no charge. Tag at the door, retrieve on the jet bridge at arrival.

Hawaiian Airlines vs Alaska Airlines carry-on

Hawaiian and Alaska share the 22 x 14 x 9 carry-on footprint and are now under one parent company, and neither publishes a carry-on weight limit post-merger. Hawaiian's 717 interisland fleet forces more gate checks than anything Alaska operates on the mainland.
