Frequently Asked Questions

Which cruise lines have a luggage weight limit?
Carnival (50 lb / 23 kg per bag), Cunard (50 lb / 23 kg per bag), MSC (50 lb / 23 kg per bag), Norwegian (50 lb / 23 kg per bag), Oceania (70 lb / 32 kg per bag). The remaining lines publish no per-bag weight limit and instead ask for a reasonable amount of luggage that fits in your stateroom.
How many bags can you bring on a cruise?
Most major lines that set a count allow two checked bags per guest. Several lines set no strict number at all, asking only that your luggage be a reasonable amount you can store in your cabin. Baggage liability caps (often two to three bags) are a separate matter from what you are allowed to bring.
Does a carry-on count against your cruise baggage allowance?
It depends on the line. Carnival's 50 lb (23 kg) per-bag limit covers carry-on bags too, and MSC allows 2 carry-on pieces per guest, each up to 56 x 45 x 25 cm (22 x 17 x 9 in) and 50 lb (23 kg). 7 other lines permit a carry-on but publish no limit of their own and 4 publish no carry-on rule. Whatever the line, keep medication, documents, valuables, and a swimsuit with you at embarkation, because checked bags are delivered to your stateroom hours after you board.
