Royal Caribbean Baggage & Luggage Policy

How many bags you can bring on a Royal Caribbean cruise in 2026, weight limits in pounds and kilograms, what to keep in your carry-on, and the embarkation-day rules that catch first-timers out.

Quick answer

Royal Caribbean publishes no strict bag count or per-bag weight limit. You may bring a reasonable amount of luggage that fits in your stateroom. A carry-on you keep with you on embarkation day is permitted.

Carry-on

Yes

Royal Caribbean does not state a piece count or a weight limit. Its luggage FAQ says each guest may carry "a reasonable amount of personal property (including luggage)" and recommends guests "limit the number of pieces you take." Guests can carry luggage on board or check it before boarding. Carry-on luggage must fit through the x-ray screening machines, which vary in size from port to port, and luggage may be locked only with a TSA approved lock. A stateroom may not be ready right away, so pack a small carry-on with a change of clothes and a bathing suit.

Carry-on essentials

Royal Caribbean collects your checked bags at the pier and delivers them to your stateroom over the first several hours aboard, sometimes not until dinnertime. Carry anything you need before then in the bag you keep with you.

Keep in your carry-on

  • Passport, boarding pass, and payment cards
  • Medication and anything medically necessary
  • Swimsuit and a change of clothes for day one
  • Phone, chargers, and valuables

Pack in checked bags

  • Evening and formal-night outfits
  • Toiletries over carry-on liquid sizes
  • Shoes, layers, and bulkier clothing
  • Everything tagged with your Royal Caribbean International luggage tags

Frequently asked questions

How many bags can I bring on a Royal Caribbean cruise?
Royal Caribbean does not publish a limit on how many checked bags each guest can bring.
Is there a weight limit for Royal Caribbean luggage?
Royal Caribbean does not publish a per-bag weight limit. Bags still need to be light enough for you and the pier porters to handle, and to fit in your stateroom.
Can I bring a carry-on bag on Royal Caribbean?
Yes. Royal Caribbean permits a carry-on. Keep medications, travel documents, valuables, and swimwear in it, because checked bags are delivered to your stateroom several hours after you board.
When is checked baggage delivered to my Royal Caribbean stateroom?
Checked bags are collected at the pier on embarkation day and delivered to your stateroom door over the following few hours, often not until late afternoon or evening. Pack anything you need for the first few hours, including medication and a swimsuit, in the bag you carry on.
What should I pack for a Royal Caribbean cruise?
Attach the Royal Caribbean International luggage tags to every checked bag before you arrive at the terminal so they route to the right stateroom. Our cruise packing list has a full pre-cruise checklist.
