Norwegian Cruise Line dress code

Norwegian describes its dining dress approach as relaxed resort style. Guests wear everything from shorts with a collared shirt to easy dresses and button-downs, and some dress up for the more elevated specialty restaurants. Norwegian asks that attire feel put-together and suited to the setting, with shirts and footwear required, respectful graphics, and appropriate coverage for a dining environment. Swimwear is for the pool, and extremely short shorts are for other activities. Smart casual is the dress code in the upscale specialty restaurants.

Who Norwegian Cruise Line is best for

Travelers who want maximum flexibility and no set dining times, assigned seating, or formal dress requirements. Norwegian's Freestyle Cruising appeals to couples, friend groups, and families who prefer to eat when and where they want. The Prima class ships target a slightly more upscale demographic with higher-end finishes and smaller passenger counts than the Breakaway Plus ships.

Standout features

  • Freestyle Cruising eliminates fixed dining times, assigned tables, and mandatory dress codes
  • Norwegian Aqua launched 2025 as the first Prima Plus class ship at 156,300 GT
  • The Haven by Norwegian is a ship-within-a-ship luxury enclave with private pool, sundeck, and concierge
  • Go-kart tracks at sea on Breakaway Plus (Bliss, Joy, Encore) and Prima class (Prima, Viva); the newest Prima Plus ships Aqua and Luna swapped the track for the Aqua Slidecoaster
